The Problem Story

It started with a simple question nobody could answer. A product team had been using AI for months — prompts for customer support, content generation, internal tooling. Good work. Real results. Then a stakeholder asked: "which version of that prompt are we running in production right now?" The room went quiet. One engineer had the original in Notion. Another had tweaked it locally. A third had copy-pasted a "final" version into the product weeks ago. The marketing team had their own version. The data team had forked it. Nobody had told anyone. The prompt — the single most important instruction shaping how the product behaved — existed in six places, in six different states, owned by nobody, governed by nothing. Enterprises were making real decisions based on prompts they couldn't trace, couldn't version, and couldn't audit. The infrastructure for code had been solved decades ago. Prompts were still being treated like sticky notes. That's the moment PromptFlow came into focus: if prompts are the new code, they deserve the same discipline.
